KL Tower International Sunrise Towerthon Challenge 2013
Date: 19th May 2013 (Sunday)
Flag off: 7.15am (Women Open)
Fee: RM40 (Early bird registration)

I aware of this towerthon challenge two years ago when my friend participated in it. I had few times of marathon running experiences, but never take up into towerthon (climbing staircase) challenge. I just feel like to experience it, and so coincidentally my friend interested in it, therefore we signed up for the climb. A big thank to one of my friend too as she bought the bib from others in the very last minute mostly to accompany me to go for the towerthon.

We reached the starting area at around 6.55am. The starting line is located at the downhill where all the participants are required to run a steep uphill of around 0.86km before reaching the starting staircase. OMG, I was exhausted already when running for the uphill. How did I manage to continue for the remaining 2058 steps, not running but climbing!

KL Tower, I never imagine I will climb staircase to reach the top, but not using lift service.

I a bit scared of the towerthon  as climbing staircase is my weakness. The day before the towerthon, my friend who did the towerthon climb before gave me some advices. He advices me to climb two staircases in a step, which will be much more faster. He also roughly told me how the situation is for the towerthon climb. There will be around 100 floors where each 4th floor will have a label (total 22th + 001-3th floor labeling) and a place to rest (outside the corridor but still stuffy). Water stations are available too but I forget there have how many station ( between 3 -5). I hardly imagine how a lot people squeeze into a narrow corridors and climb at the same time until I experienced it myself.

When I entered the corridor and started climbing, I feel that this is the "Road Not Taken". At first all the climbers include myself were quite energetic to start the climb, but most of them start to slow down after few floors with all image come out. I keep on walking up until the labelled 6th floor ( equivalent to 24th floor) and take my first rest outside the corridor. Without rest much, I slowly continue on it. I totally exhausted and energy level is alarming. The narrow tower corridor with poor air ventilation, lack of oxygen, smelly due to sweating make me feel suffering and dizzy during the climb. I feel faint, can't breath well and sweating a lot during the climb. I tried to rest halfway too inside the corridor on the way climbing up but it make me feel more stuffy as dying air are circulating. What I can motivate myself is to finish the climb as fast as possible to breath for the fresh air on the top. I'm dying to crawl myself continue with the steps with the support of the floor handlers.

God bless I did not get faint inside the corridor and manage to reach the top. Upon reaching the top floor - 003th floor, you will welcomed and rewarded with a finisher medal. Wow, I target to finish it within 1 hours and I did it. For the official timing results, you can check it here: http://championchip.com.my/2013/KL%20Towerthon%202013.pdf

My first KL Towerthon timing record, ranked 144 among 452 climbers in the category D -Women Open.

After reaching the top and finishing the towerthon, you have to walk down few floors to reach the observation deck. Here you can have a chance to have a panoramic view of KL city. For the normal entrance rate, you have to pay RM29 (Adult, Malaysian) or RM47 (Adult, International) just to go up to the observation deck. For more information about KL Tower, log into the official website: http://www.kltower.com.my/

Regardless the civilization scene, the first thing I do is to get a place to sit down and rest when I reached the observation deck. I sit alone at a corner while waiting for my friend to finish her climb. Most of the climbers are busying to take photo with the city view, with their medals and also with their friends. As normal, I was asked to help to take photo for them when you are free and do nothing there. I started busy with my photo session after meet up with my friends.

Here to show our finisher medals, we did it for Sunrise KL Towerthon

A photo of me and my friend, thank you.

KL City view

We "loitered" at the observation deck for around 30 minutes and we decided to leave. Going down from the top of the tower of course to take a lift, if not climb down again will really get faint. There are some sponsor stalls available at the exit of the KL tower. Nasi Lemak breakfast packs are available too and I ate two packs of it. Really hungry after the suffering climb.

When we all are RED inside the lift.

Cool Rhino - One of the sponsor items. I kept it for my upcoming Nuang hike this coming Saturday.

Nasi Lemak, feel nice to eat maybe due to too hungry.

I met some of my hiking friends at there too and we have some photo session as well. Me and my friend leave KL Tower at around 9.15am, the weather of the day is so nice and we have our leisure walk to   KLCC. The Nasi Lemak is enough to make me full, therefore we did not take breakfast (or brunch). After some "loitering" again in KLCC, we go back home by LRT.

I know myself is not good in climbing staircase, but unexpectedly my leg is okay, no painful and no sour. What make me suffering the most is the poor air ventilation during the climb. I have a heavy headache after the towerthon, maybe due to lack of oxygen. Upon reaching home, after shower and some rest, I quickly go for a sleep.

The is my first time and think will be my last time as well for me to join the towerthon challenge. One time experience is enough for me to "torture" myself. Haha...However, for those who are interested and keen to join it, you are mostly welcomed and don't forget to keep yourself update for next year towerthon challenge.

What doesn't kill you,
makes you stronger.
